Hello and Happy New Year!
Below is a summary of several employer updates to be aware of for 2025 in California:
- Minimum Wage: As of January 1, 2025, California’s minimum wage is $15.50 per hour for all employers, regardless of size. Some cities may have higher minimum wages, so be sure to check local ordinances.
- Cal/OSHA Enforcement: Cal/OSHA continues to expand its authority, now including “enterprise-wide” and “egregious” violations. Employers should stay on top of workplace safety to avoid these penalties.
- Agricultural Overtime: Starting January 1, 2025, agricultural workers are entitled to overtime pay after 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week, for large employers (26 or more employees).
- Confidentiality in Agreements: SB 331 continues to prohibit confidentiality clauses in severance and settlement agreements related to sexual harassment and discrimination. Review employee handbooks to ensure compliance.
